Software Terminology at Wayne Davison

In an edit for your biographical article you summarized "open-source software is a superset of Free Software, and most of the software I worked on was not GPLed at the time the unidiff was created". Unfortunately the free software and open source software definitions overlap rather than subsume each other. Was the software yo worked on proprietary?
