Paragraph to be Deleted

[edit]

"Although critics of the minimalist school of music often describe minimalism otherwise, many listeners find this opera powerful, emotional and extremely moving. The tragedy of Akhenaten's life and times is always present, if only in the background and every musical phrase is imbued with an aura of antiquity."

Who are these critics and these many listeners? This paragraph reads like a review. I'm going to delete it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.164.77.105 (talk) 06:16, 8 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Technical Information

[edit]

It would be nice to have an analysis of the music. Generally in Wikipedia articles there is no solid, technical information. It would be very helpful to have a useful musical article. Gingermint (talk) 03:05, 11 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not quite sure what you mean. There is already a lot of infomation about the music in the article. What would you like to have included? -- megA (talk) 20:04, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Abraham

[edit]

Is Ahkenaten Abraham?

"in the language of the audience"

[edit]

@Ivonna Nowicka: Do you have a source for your change? The lead section says that the narration was spoken in German in the German performances, so it seems plausible that the Hymn was sung in German also. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:06, 4 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I think you may be right. Not digging any deeper but taking de:Akhnaten at face value, there it's stated (with source), "Der Sonnengesang des Echnaton soll nach Anweisung des Komponisten immer in der jeweiligen Landessprache gesungen werden." I think it would be safe to restore the previous wording. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 09:38, 4 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Error ?

[edit]

In the synopsis of the third act 'Horemhab, Aye and the High Priest of Aten instigate the people' - should this not be the High Priest of Amun ? They are instigating to destroy the Temple to Aten (sun god) and replace him with the old god Amun aren't they ? Plus he's the only High Priest in the character list.

In the character list - Amenhotep III, father of Akhnaten - Akhnaten is spelt Akhenaton and the High Priest is referred to as of Amon - should be Amun ?

But apart for these nit-picking bits, very useful article to read before I see it (and much better value than an ENO program !) 89.145.193.124 (talk) 12:51, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
