Admin

[edit]

I am a Wikipedia:administrator since July 5, 2004. I first contributed to Wikipedia in April of 2001 (oldest edits lost in early software upgrades). My first edit with my username appears to be on April 26. I have been active on a number of online projects - active and passive (SETI@Home, Distributed Proofreaders, Mars crater labeling, Stardust@Home, Folding@Home on the Wikipedia team: Team page, etc.)

Note: It really isn't feasible to figure out what the edit filter is supposed to do by reading it, so I can't be sure, but this looks to me like a false positive. JBW (talk) 20:17, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
Agreed, a false positive. The filter isn’t aimed at this activity. -- Malcolmxl5 (talk) 20:42, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
False positive. Edits are not vandalism. Nothing but constructive editing. JBW (talk) 20:49, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

Requests for page protection

Current requests for increase in protection level

[edit]
Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Protection was originally declined, with Daniel Case blocking socks instead, but this problem is not slowing down. Should absolutely be protected, beyond a shadow of a doubt. JeffSpaceman (talk) 11:15, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

  • Automated comment: A request for protection/unprotection for one or more pages in this request was recently made, and was denied at some point within the last 8 days.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 11:23, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level

[edit]
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: This redirect is fully protected because of an argument about whether it should be its own article. This dispute was settled over nine years ago, so this page's current level of protection is unnecessary. Cyrobyte (talk) 19:45, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

@Spartaz: Protecting admin, back in the day. Favonian (talk) 20:00, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

[edit]
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Account creator

[edit]

On Sept 21st I will be offering a training to beginner editors during the World Congress of Audiology in Paris We will introduce participants to Global Audiology. I anticipate I will need to allow the creation of some new accounts at the same time, so I ask for this user right from Sept 21 to 23rd. I already hold this permission with both Portuguese and testwiki. Thank you TMorata (talk) 14:42, 9 September 2024 (UTC)

Done until September 25th. Elli (talk | contribs) 14:07, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
Not done, revoked, and replaced with +eventcoordinator.
@Elli, this right shouldn't be granted to those running events. The eventcoordinator group is much better suited as it excludes some more sensitive rights like override-antispoof and tboverride-account, but also grants the ability to mark users as confirmed if necessary. stwalkerster (talk) 20:46, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
@Stwalkerster: my apologies; you're totally right. I don't know how I missed that here; I'd granted eventcoordinator before. Elli (talk | contribs) 20:53, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

Autopatrolled

[edit]

Been on Wikipedia for a few years now. Mainly created BLPs. Requesting for autopatrolled rights to reduce the backlog of new page patrollers. I declare that I've understood verifiability, notability and copyrights. SerChevalerie (talk) 21:21, 25 August 2024 (UTC)

On hold. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:46, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
Okay, the user's talk page history is back. This can now be evaluated normally. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 08:12, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

Created 407 articles, and only 2 were deleted—1 was soft deleted earlier in 2022, and the latest one was deleted per WP:A10, which is not a major issue. 99.5% or 405 of his articles are still live. I came across him while patrolling New Pages. I believe he is one of the users for whom this right was created. GrabUp - Talk 17:27, 6 September 2024 (UTC)

Requesting autopatrolled rights to help with the backlog I create when making articles related to major sporting events mainly covering athletics but sometimes also cycling and swimming. The articles I create are/will be individual sports results pages connected to large sports events like the Olympics/Paralympics/Summer University games/World Championships etc. I've had no issues with the articles I have created and they are normally reviewed very quickly however when a competition can have 20-40 events meaning 20-40 pages this small amount of time to review could be saved if I had autopatrolled. Requesting access for updating census data of highly populated Indian villages in Kerala state and other human settlements on this planet in future. Pachu Kannan (talk) 10:12, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

I would like access to AWB to fix CheckWiki issues more efficiently than I currently do using WPCleaner. I also want to streamline typo fixing as part of WP:TYPO. I understand I have been denied it twice in the recent past, but I strongly believe that I am fit for getting the permission now, as I gained significantly more experience and done more constructive edits. I want to change a string "2019 redefinition of the SI base units" to "2019 revision of the SI" across pages that define the SI units. If it works well I may do similar edits in future. I have experience with Wikipedia and scripted file editing generally. Thanks. Johnjbarton (talk) 22:07, 9 September 2024 (UTC)

Been meaning to apply for a while, but the immediate task that pushed me to do so is correcting a bunch of links to a disambiguated article. Tule-hog (talk) 22:52, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

Immediate task has been resolved, and didn't require AWB (it was just a link in a single template which was transcluded in many articles). Tule-hog (talk) 04:56, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
Request withdrawn (for the bot). Primefac (talk) 10:52, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

I would like to use AWB's Checkwiki functionality to alter position of references with respect to punctuation and incorrect ISBNs as I am frequently revising pages that need reference issue support; use find and replace for music album title issues; and use AWB for assistance on creating and correcting items and links within categories of music genres, domestic flag information, and public parks. Thank you. Shotgunheist💬 19:49, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

Improve articles' layouts, correcting Spanish settlement infoboxes, changing IPA-va (depricated) to IPA|ca-valencia, adding IPA, correcting links, etc. I had AWB rights in the past, however I stopped using Wikipedia due to COVID-19. Now I am fully recovered and would like to carry on improving things here and there. Thank you. Nuvolet (talk) 20:23, 11 September 2024 (UTC) Nuvolet (talk) 20:23, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

Can i please have extended confirmed rights back. I lost it because one day when i had a little less than 500 edits, i made about 45-55 edits in one hour in order to get to 500 edits. Im new to this site and didn't know gaming edits was against the rules. Ever since i lost the extended confirmed thing, I've made hundreds of edits i think are constructive and i stopped vandalism a few times and have a much better understanding of the rules. extended confirmed rights HumansRightsIsCool (talk) 21:59, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi, I have been an active Wikipedia for over 4 months now and have enjoyed my time on here editing and contributing to the community. If given this right, I humbly and truly commit to using it on a volunteer, fair, and competent basis, and would appreciate the acceptance Aliy Dawut (talk) 02:57, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

Not done. Thank you for volunteering, but in reviewing your editing history I wasn't able to find sufficient experience with the deletion process to feel comfortable granting you the permission at this point in time. I encourage you to spend some time at WP:AFD and make policy based votes to show that you're comfortable evaluating notability. Alternatively, you can still apply to help out at Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:30, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

I want to be able to help out with the next backlog drive, and be able to get into the more maintennance-y tasks of Wikipedia. I have written 340+ articles, and I want to branch out and do something new for once (article creation does get boring after some time). I've participated in at least 30 AfDs (for some reason it only shows 6) and initiated multiple AfDs, have used AfC several times (which is also something I want to be able to help with) and have never been known to be uncivil to other editors (I am a host at the Teahouse as well). I have also reviewed a few DYKs and have reviewed a GA. I also think I'm going to go through the NPP academy, to make sure I use these tools correctly and have more experience from other editors. I'd also rather prefer a trial run, because I want to see what the tool is like and learn how to use it before I go all-in. :) Sir MemeGod :D (talk - contribs - created articles) 15:35, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

I currently have temporary NPP right which will expire in few days and would like to continue patrolling new pages to help bring down the huge backlog. Ednabrenze (talk) 04:34, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

I've been doing general maintenance tasks for a while now (despite some breaks in activity), and I would like the opportunity to further expand my skill set and help reduce the backlog of pages. Thanks! Sincerely, Guessitsavis (she/they) (Talk) 17:48, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

I have reviewed the criteria for receiving this permission, and feel my contribution history demonstrates an adequate knowledge of creating, expanding, and patrolling articles in accordance to Wikipedia policies. Tvfunhouse (talk) 00:54, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

Hey, Just want to help with the backlog in this area specifically by helping new users contribute to Wikipedia. Thanks so much! JuxtaposedJacob (talk) 02:49, 12 September 2024 (UTC)

Done Joyous! Noise! 21:05, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

Hello hello, I have been a Wikipedian for well over 4 months now, and I feel that I have learned a great many things about the site in terms of editing, content, policies, and conduct that I could have never imagined beforehand. If given this right, I humbly commit to using it to the utmost competent and fair / legitimate nature that I possibly can. Thank you Aliy Dawut (talk) 02:52, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

I have been contributing to pages for four years now, with prior experience in patrolling edit filter log. I would like to get reviewer rights so I can contribute to Wikipedia in more ways than I am able to, presently, and help with the backlog. Since my last request in July, I've been making a track record of communicating collegially with other editors, in my talk page and elsewhere. I hope you'll consider me. Thank you. — ‎‎‎hhypeboyh 💬✏️ 23:11, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

I have 16 months experience in editing Wikipedia. I wish to contribute whole lot of my time for betterment of Wikipedia and reduce the backlog in all possible ways that I can. As an initial step towards it, I am applying for granting this user right, so I can use it to improve pages in Wikipedia. Thank You! Mischellemougly (talk) 09:15, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
Requests for rollback

Rollback

[edit]

Hello! I recently applied for rollback and withdrew my request after realizing that I was below the required 200 main space edit count. Now, I have 206 main space edits (mostly anti-vandalism work) as well as a month of experience. I would like access to rollback in order to use tools like Huggle and Anti-Vandal to revert vandalism more quickly. During my very first efforts to revert vandalism, I did fail to warn some users as I did not have access to RedWarn or Twinkle and had not yet read the related policies. Shortly after that, I read WP:VANDAL. Now, I believe I have since built a strong track record of warning the user every time I revert their edits and reverting only when appropriate. Thanks! Hello hello, I have been a strongly active and, I believe, positive contributor to Wikipedia for over 4 months now, and have throughly enjoyed my time editing and undoing vandalism/unconstructive edits whenever I see them. I have not reverted a *ton* of vandalism, but I do believe that I have at least demonstrated by ability to discern and do so, as well as doing my best as of recently to notify users when I revert their edits. Moreover, I commit to using this right fairly, constructively, and honestly if given it. Thanks Aliy Dawut (talk) 02:30, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

Not done I reviewed your contributions and found little to no recent anti-vandalism work. If you're still interested in this tool then please spend at least a month actively patrolling RecentChanges (Twinkle & Ultraviolet can help with that) before reapplying. Also, please ensure that you are consistently warning editors when you revert their edits. Thanks, Fastily 02:38, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
Understood Aliy Dawut (talk) 02:42, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
Also I’m sure you noticed but I am also requesting the Pending Changes Reviewer permission, I think that would significantly help me in patrolling / doing anti vandalism as well. Since you are an admin, could you look into that request of mine? I would appreciate it Aliy Dawut (talk) 02:46, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
I have been cleaning up vandalism mostly with the help of Twinkle. I was granted temporary rollback rights in 2021 but then life got busy and I didn't seek an extension. I now have more time to dedicate to counter-vandalism efforts again. ClaudineChionh (she/her · talk · contribs · email) 13:05, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

"Do you want to take a survey?"

    [edit]

On Feb. 12, 2005, I did a random pages survey. Out of 100 random pages, only 1 was a U.S. town. That's progress. Three towns in the UK, 1 in Spain and 1 in Portugal also turned up. Overall biographies were the largest category at 22%, followed by geography with 15% total. Then Lists at 7%, Disambiguation pages at 6%.

On Feb. 24, 2006, I repeated the 100 random page survey, this time getting 5 U.S. towns. Overall, geography had 26%, biography 21%, fiction 9%, music 4%, colleges 4%, lists 3% and disambigs 4%. Clearly geography and biography are our largest areas. Music, science and business scored less than I expected. Non-individual History was hardly discernable.

Even by Feb. 2005, 100 out of almost 500,000 was not statistically significant but was as much as I had patience for.

Up to Dec 16, 2003, all the edits at these anonymous id's were mine (59 edits):

More recently 1,250 or so edits on 75.41.110.200 are apparently all mine. Apparently my new ID is 75.41.109.190. There are undoubtedly many others as the earliest history of many articles was not preserved by the software.
