Inspiration

[edit]

Either it's Joe or the Turks who inspired; can't be both. So which is it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.65.43.62 (talkcontribs) 21:39, 4 November 2015‎ (UTC)

Origin/Recording

[edit]

Ultimately, in my opinion, the article will have a section (augmenting and maybe replacing 'Musical Style') that ties together: Brubeck's inspiration (Eurasia), Morello's instigation (his 5/4 ability), Desmond's mandated creativity [being delegated by Brubeck to compose (main/bridge) melodies in 5/4 time], and the tortuous recording process (recounted superbly in Stephen Crist's 2019 book 'Dave Brubeck's Time Out', pp. 117-123). To this end, I've now added a 'Composing and recording' section - surely this article is now more than Start-Class on the 'quality scale'? ;) Birdman euston (talk) 14:43, 17 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Surprising that the article does not mention the recording engineer Fred Plaut (born in Munich/Germany 1907) https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Plaut Ontologix (talk) 11:00, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Suitable photos

[edit]

Can anyone add a suitable contemporaneous photo of the Quartet together or Paul Desmond alone, e.g. in the recording studio, that doesn't destroy copyright? Any college students out there whose institution subscribes to a free-use images database? Some fantastic colour photos of the Time Out recording sessions exist but they're owned by the estate of the late Don Hunstein, Columbia Records staff photographer at that time, or by Sony Music. To this end, I've now added 'Public Domain' photos of Paul Desmond and the Dave Brubeck Quartet, sourced from Wikimedia Commons. Birdman euston (talk) 20:08, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Versions from other musicians

[edit]

Cherry Wainer made her own version of the song purely on the Hammond B-3 Organ with drums in the 1960s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9h_N_VEI9nM

I feel this should be a section in the article, or as a note. Have other musicians modified the song to their own style that should be mentioned? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.193.254.87 (talk) 03:22, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Team-B-Vital Improvement Drive

[edit]

Hello all!

This article has been chosen as this fortnight's effort for WP:Discord's #team-b-vital channel, a collaborative effort to bring Vital articles up to a B class if possible, similar to WP:Articles for Improvement. This effort will run for up to a fortnight, ending early if the article is felt to be at B-class or impossible to further improve. Articles are chosen by a quick vote among interested chatters, with the goal of working together on interesting Vital articles that need improving.

Thank you! Remagoxer (talk) 00:56, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
