What year was she born?

[edit]

"Pfc. Lori Ann Piestewa (December 14, 1980 - March 2003) was an Army soldier who was killed during the same Iraqi Army attack in which her friend Jessica Lynch was injured. She was 23 years old."

Now, if she really was born on December 14, 1980, then she would have had her twenty-second birthday on December 14, 2002, which meant that in the May of 2003 she'd be 22. If she really was 23 years old, then she'd have to have been born in 1979, instead of 1980. Assuming the December birthday at least is correct, that is . . .

Does anyone know Lori Piestewa's real birthdate? Wiwaxia 02:38, 11 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Social Security Death Index gives her DOB as 14 Dec 1979. Corrected main article.--Wurmis 21:28, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mother's maiden name

[edit]

Does anybody have Priscilla "Percy" Piestewa's maiden name? It wasn't Piestewa, too, was it?--Methychroma 23:19, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like it was "Baca." Badagnani 23:29, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I went over the page cited and I don't see the reference.--Methychroma 23:46, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I did not add a source for "Baca." See this search for evidence of "Baca." Badagnani 23:55, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I went ahead and put that in.--Methychroma 00:03, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lori was driving the lead Humvee. Was she navigating? If so, it was her responsibility that the convoy got lost. Shouldn't this have an effect on her being treated as a heroine? If she wasn't navigating, that should be stated so as to clear her of culpability.203.184.41.226 (talk) 05:58, 25 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree this information should certainly be included in the article as it's extremely relevant to her history. This line is contained in Jessica Lynch's article- "On March 23, 2003, a convoy [...] led by a Humvee driven by Lori Piestewa, made a wrong turn and were ambushed near Nasiriyah, a major crossing point over the Euphrates northwest of Basra." This seems to indicate Piestewa was leading the entire convoy although the source document (http://www.sftt.us/PDF/article07102003a.pdf#prof) appears to no longer be available. Although reading the story as it is written here (http://www.oshadavidson.com/Piestewa2.htm) it seems that the convoy was being led by Capt. Troy King (which makes more sense than a PFC leading a convoy), that after 50 hours with no sleep he had mistakenly already driven all the way through the city of Nasiriyah under heightened tension in view of AK-47 wielding men before deciding the convoy was too far east and that they would have to re-trace their route through Nasiriyah, where they were eventually ambushed. 24.76.164.79 (talk) 02:03, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
