The article contained the statement:

TV5 is the third global television network, after MTV and CNN.

Is this just a personal opinion, or are there viewing figures or something else to back this up? --Gabriel Beecham/Kwekubo 22:12, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, it is on their web page. Try to read stuff sometimes...

How does TV5 claiming to be something make it nessacerily so.
Sure, I get TV5 on my cable (Ireland), and its on my digital satellite (British company, Irish service). But generally the three channels you get everywhere are: MTV, CNN, and BBC World. Or, in the UK and Ireland, the real BBC. Not TV5. After that, Sky News is pretty endemic now, as its a bit more reliable and trustworthy than CNN, and has better localised feeds. Kiand 00:11, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The fact that TV5 claims something, is not enough to be presented as a fact. The claim TV5 is in the top 3 most available global tv networks is not endorsed by any data. For many years, even a citation was missing for this claim. As a result, I changed the statement to indicate it is a claim of the company and not a proven fact. The claim is also unclear because it does not define the meaning of being "available". On this premise, we could claim that vacation trips to the Moon is available to all people on Earth, provide they finance the trip. The reality is that, for instance ins USA, one could not subscribe to TV5 alone. One should subscribe to other unwanted programming as well in order to get TV5. Based on this fact, I consider that TV5 IS NOT available in USA. A more meaningful statistics will indicate a ranking based on how many people actually have TV5 in their TVs. Can anyone point to such a statistics? Gigi marga (talk) 01:13, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Aillagon

[edit]

My understanding is that Aillagon has been fired recently because he was displeasing Chirac. Can anyone confirm ? Hektor 16:28, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

About the old logotype

[edit]

The caption claims that this was the logotype of TV5 from 1984 until 1995. However, I recall that there was another one in use for the first years. Something that resembled a stylized satellite in the form of the name of the channel. I think the one featured in the article came along somewhere 1987 or 1988... Not a big issue, but still interesting. Anyone who remembers what I'm talking about? --Aatox 16:29, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Other questions about TV5Monde Europe

[edit]

I'm here to wonder about who is the person that decided that TV5MONDE Europe will not leave the analogue satellite network, while other TV5MONDE channels left the analogue satellite network? I want to know about it, please! DO NOT REMOVE THIS MESSAGE!!!

Edit request from , 21 November 2011

[edit]

{{edit semi-protected}} I am submitting an edit request for the information page regarding TV5 Monde. There is nothing that is factually inaccurate, however the information provided here is egregiously out of date and does not take into account a complete revamping of the station which took place back in 2009. The "habillage", or the graphic look and feel of the station was fundamentally changed and the service mark: "Un Monde, Des Monde, TV5 Monde." adopted. Please refer to the following link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7gpJ214Pdg&list=FLV67FRAJgFqZLg3bC6ixY3w&index=25&feature=plpp_video

This new look has proven to revitalize the station and has proven to be popular with viewers. Finally, the station operates 24 hours/day....

Hi there. I'm sorry if anything is out-of-date, but any information needs reliable sources - if you can suggest specific changes, with appropriate sources, I'll be happy to make the changes. If anything is wrong and/or poorly referenced, we could remove it; but please make the requests specific. "YouTube" is not a reliable source. Thanks,  Chzz  ►  00:50, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
"Un Monde, Des Monde, TV5 Monde." already appears in the infobox and is supported by the network's website. The network's website also supports the 24-hour broadcast schedule. Making that addition to the article would mean eliminating the "Startup" and "Closedown" sections (or substantially altering the content thereof). Suggestions from anyone on how to best accomplish this change are welcome as I have little experience with regard to this type of re-write. Regards Tiderolls 02:01, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

TV5MONDETV5Monde – "Monde" in English means "world", so there is no need to capitalize the word "MONDE" here. Silvergoat (talkcontrib) 13:36, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm favourably disposed to this suggestion (as I generally dislike it when companies try to get people to type their names in all capital letters), but if most sources use the all-caps formatting, maybe we shouldn't do it. How do reliable (non-affiliated) sources usually refer to it? —BarrelProof (talk) 19:03, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just scanning the most reliable sources (on Google Scholar), it seems that the all caps approach is used slightly more often.[1] First Light (talk) 21:18, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support given that TV5Monde are promoting themselves with CAPS naturally some sources will reflect that, but looking at at a totally independent source Francophonie, identité nationale et mondialisation au début du troisième millénaire (avec la présentation d'un nouveau projet multimédia) M Overmann - Zeitschrift für Romanische Sprachen 2011 "La chaîne de télévision franco-allemande Arte a diffusé en partenariat avec TV5Monde et l'Institut national ." a more sensible title is justified. In ictu oculi (talk) 00:56, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support – As I previously commented above, the all-caps formatting seems to be company self-promotion. The suggested title seems more NPOV and is supported in some non-affiliated sources. –BarrelProof (talk) 02:17, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to broadcasts in the UK

[edit]

I am aware from emails that TV5Monde are changing their broadcast delivery methods in the United Kingdom. Their broadcasts have already ceased on the Astra Sky satellite platform at 28.2°E, and they were meant to have ceased on Virgin Media UK & Ireland at channel 825. However they're still there. Does anyone know further when this is likely to happen, and would documenting it now be crystal balling? Dane|Geld 08:05, 17 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
