Removal of Advertising

[edit]

I just reverted back to a version before all of the contact info for travel agencies and tour groups was added. None of that belongs in Wikipedia. Please see WP:NOTDIRECTORY for more information. In addition the section listing all of the details of each area reads like a travel brochure, and has lots of language that is inappropriate for WP. Our job is to provide factual, reliable, sourced info. I don't at the moment feel like going and slashing out the ad-speak, as I'd prefer the original editor worked on that. One thing the original editor must do is add sources for this information--specifically, those that meet the criteria in WP:RS. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask here. Further Edits

[edit]

I also decided to remove all of the "detailed" info about each of the cities and counties. Each of those locations already has its own article page, and so any relevant info should go there. What was included read mostly like an advertisement, in any regard. Wikipedia should be in neutral point of view, which means no flowery phrases that sound like they came from a travel brochure. Finally, Wikipedia articles should not have bare links in them. Any appropriate links belong in the External Links section at the end; for this article, the one external link to the Region's home page is sufficient, and a link to each of the cities/counties homepages can go on each article's pages. New article title

[edit]

The article is currently titled "Jeonbuk State", due to a move made by @Incheonlove with the following justification: Jeonbuk State is now officially launched on 18 January 2024 from North Jeolla Province [2].

Respectfully, I'm skeptical of the move for two reasons:

  • It goes against WP:NCKO, although granted these are just guidelines and not rules
  • It is unlikely to be the WP:COMMONNAME. If you're not familiar with the policy about common name, I strongly encourage you to read that link carefully. For reference, common name is such a powerful policy that it tends to outweigh "official names". Hence why Turkey is the article title for the country, despite the country's official spelling of Türkiye. Similarly, South Korea's official name is the Republic of Korea, but we use South Korea.

I'll wait for a response, then may revert if none in a few days. If you'd like to attempt this move again, please do it in a move discussion; this is not an uncontroversial move. toobigtokale (talk) 02:53, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I went ahead and added a request to revert in WP:RMT. Maybe I was a bit bold but from recent sources (published after the name change) such as the Korea Times, Korea Herald, and Yonhap, North Jeolla is still the common name. Dantus21 (talk) 03:43, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
