Pop Culture

[edit]

Don't really know how to edit Wiki; it's not intuitive at all. But if someones wants they could add that Powerman 5000 is named after Power Man (kinda obvious yeah?) :

“It was something I could understand and do. It wasn’t about me being the greatest singer in the world, it was more about attitude and idea and over the years I brought my love of aggressive music and the love of movies, comics and TV to make this hybrid of Powerman 5000.”

He says the name of the band was inspired by — go figure — a comic book character.

“I had this one comic book called ‘Powerman,’ who was the first black super hero,” he said. “I was really attracted to it and added 5000 for the flair.”

Political correctness

[edit]

Wouldn't "black" be more politically correct than African-American? Not all black people come from Africa. Slicedoranges 04:52, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What's politically correct to some is an insult to another. Some people prefer one term over the other, for whatever reason. A similar debate is happening with some individuals of Latin descent. Some feel the term "Hispanic" is an insult, some even consider it a racial slur, while others see it as perfectly fine. Maybe it's just best if we leave this subject alone.Odin's Beard 23:50, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Power ratings

[edit]

fixed a link for Ronin to point to the appropriate comic character instead of the page on masterless samurai. Though this may need to be removed if that page is deleted / merged depending on the development of that character. --xiaou 14 Sep 2005

Mm - do we really need that OHOTMUish info at the end? DS 21:38, 6 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I don't understand why power ratings from the OHOTMU are often deleted from profiles. I do understand that many of the power ratings, most notably that of strength of certain characters, is often debated and nothing is going to change this. However, while the ratings might be somewhat unreliable or in need of update regarding some characters, it's at least something to provide readers who view the article some idea as to what level the characters can be placed in. That was the entire purpose of the OHOTMU in the first place. User:206.28.58.236
You said it yourself: the ratings are unreliable, vary from writer to writer, and often inaccurate. I agree with DS's skepticism of them and Gtrmp's deletion of them. The power ratings don't belong here. —Lowellian (reply) 23:11, September 1, 2005 (UTC)

Jessica Jones relationship

[edit]

Has their relationship really been in existance long enough (MU time) to warrant being common law husband and wife?

I'd go for partner there.

User:195.92.168.167

well there legally married now

Carl Lucas

[edit]

Did he ever have his name legally changed to Luke Cage, or is still Carl Lucas? --DrBat 00:16, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Marvel Directory says he legally changed his name, so thats what Im going by, ok? --DrBat 00:17, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
He did. Danny Rand (Iron Fist) comments on that in PM/IF #50. Luis Dantas 11:23, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Healing Time

[edit]

Its early for me, but I thought I saw an error here... it says that he had decreased ability to heal, yet at the same time his recovery time from trauma is 1/3 that of normal humans? Shouldn't this read "3 times" that of a normal human if he heals slower?

I've never read that Luke Cage can heal three times faster than an ordinary human. His listing in the previous Marvel Handbooks have stated that his recovery time from trauma was 1/3 that of a human. That sounds to me like he heals slower than ordinary humans, even though he's considerably more durable. Odin's Beard

If "recovery time from trauma was 1/3 that of a human," that means he heals faster. If it takes me 3 weeks to recover from trauma, it takes him 1/3 * 3 = 1 week to recover from the same trauma. --blisso 15:17, 6 April 2006 (UTC):[reply]
Luke Cage heals FASTER than a normal person, but not three times as fast. "1/3 of the recovery time" is accurate. Like bliss said, if it takes a normal person three weeks to heal from a wound, it would only take Cage one week. This is not the same as healing "three times as fast", but still faster than normal. Titanium skin ?

[edit]

In Luke Cage's powers and abilities section it says that his skin is harder than titanium. Isn't his skin supposed to be as hard as titanium and not harder than it ?

Also titanium can be damaged with high quality steel as according to real science titanium is as hard as steel but is less dense and lighter, thus carbonadium and organic steel and other high quality metals can injure him, not only adamantium.

I'm not entirely certain about it to be quite honest. I've heard Cage's skin listed as being rock hard, as hard as steel, as hard as Titanium, and even harder than Titanium. Cage's skin is pretty durable, at least compared to most conventional materials but the rest of his body, like his bones and organs, aren't nearly as durable. After all, just look what happened to him during the Secret War mini series. The latest one, not the classic crossover event back in the 80's.Odin's Beard

Titanium steel is stronger than ordinary steel so maybe that was what was meant?

Cage's strength was earlier explained as him having 300lbs of solid muscle but he has way surpassed that many times.(183.89.147.173 (talk) 12:18, 13 March 2013 (UTC))[reply]

Updates

[edit]

Where are all the Civil War updates for Luke Cage? I don't even see a Civil War section and he's a major player. --Basique 15:53, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to add a Civil War section to the article. With my budget, I can only manage to keep up with a few titles a month while finding out what's happening with the rest of the crossover off the net. Trying to buy up all of the issues of the various comics involved in the Civil War crossover each month is too rich for my blood. Odin's Beard 00:23, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is the Key Issue section really necessary?

[edit]

I've looked it over and it doesn't seem to have really all that much encyclopedic value. Most of the events could be worded into the character's history and background rather than be listed individually. It looks like something you'd see on a fan site or something. Odin's Beard 00:04, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Comic Facts

[edit]

I deleted this section as it serves no purpose that I can see. Aside from the section not being part of any other of the comic book character articles, it doesn't offer any facts really so much as a brief comparrison of Luke Cage's strength with Spider-Man's during a crossover fight they had back in the 1970s. I've also removed the bit about Cage's healing rate and merely stated that he can heal minor injuries faster than an ordinary human. The part about him healing 1/3 faster than an ordinary human was taken out of the OHOTMU, which makes it a stat, which is against the policy on the comic book articles.Odin's Beard 13:27, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Alternate versions of L. Cage, what about the Richard Corben-illustrated limited series? Shouldn't it be listed? That ain't MU-616; Sweet Christmas!

Fair use rationale for Image:Cage 1992.jpg

[edit]

Image:Cage 1992.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Healing factor

[edit]

I've just started an overhaul of the healing factor article of itself, and it certainly needs it. For one thing, I'm trying to find sources that actually state that Luke Cage has an accelerated healing factor. All I remember is that an old OHOTMU profile states that his recovery time from trauma is 1/3 that of a human. Now, the language here is deceptive. It can easily be interpreted that he heals slower than a normal human. Is there anything from the comics to suggest that he does heal faster than a normal human?Odin's Beard 14:39, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The image Image:MS 05182005 0019.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Reality failure

[edit]

In secret War 3, number 1, Luke Cage is seriously injured with his internal organs damaged. In hospital, doctors cannot operate on him because his skin is too hard to penetrate. Yet months later he is fit and well again, becoming a founding member of a new Avengers team. That is ridiculous.(183.89.147.173 (talk) 12:12, 13 March 2013 (UTC))[reply]

Please read WP:BURDEN. Also you're wrong, it's Marvel's first black superhero to receive his own comic book, the actual first was Lobo (Dell Comics). Don't worry, I went ahead and corrected it for you and moved the sourced info to the appropriate sections in the body of the article.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 10:07, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
To be honest with you, I don't really give a shit about your wikilawyering, nor too many of the policies on Wikipedia - I mentioned that I'm a casual editor. I've spent too much energy already on this one issue! My point remains: if you cared, you would have looked at the material and assumed good faith.
The Guardian says (and I wrote) first black superhero - not first black hero or star. Don't worry though - I went ahead and corrected it for you, whilst keeping the main details of the history of black superheroes in the main body.
.. speaking of which, I had not written a "detailed essay" on the history of black superheros, nor was there a "detailed essay" in the article prior to, or subsequent to, my edit. Barely a paragraph or two. The information is, I believe, quite essential to the history of comics, to this character, to Marvel and is not without import with regard to the history of popular culture in the USA - it was certainly a first.
Trip - if you want to add back the info about Lobo, feel free. He was probably an important step on the way to Powerman getting his own comic, though Lobo was a hero, not a superhero. --98.122.20.56 (talk) 02:27, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
