Recent edits[edit]

Hi all,

As you know I have made some recent edits to the page. Apologies for being so edit-happy. In light of this, I would just like some consensus from the community on whether the edits are welcome or need to be toned down, and what areas the community would like seen edited.

Kind regards, MitchellMatchbox (talk) 02:41, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all your good work, MitchellMatchbox. I'm not sure where I suggested this the other week, and the suggestion applies to all NZ universities, but I wonder whether we should have separate alumni or people pages in line with List of University of Oxford people. What do you think? It would be a bit of a task organising that, given that there are over 700 people listed in Category:University of Canterbury alumni. Schwede66 01:25, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think thats a plan! MitchellMatchbox (talk) 09:25, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is there any easier way of organising them? Perhaps automated using short descriptions? I have a number of lists for various universities sorted by alumni and faculty that are more extensive than most of these category pages. I haven't added category tags to the articles yet nor created new list pages due to the manual effort involved. 𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓔𝓭𝓾𝓬𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷 𝓐𝓾𝓭𝓲𝓽𝓸𝓻 11:37, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you're looking for inspiration, consider these articles:
Additionally, I'll be publishing three university articles before the end of next month that I would love input on. 𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓔𝓭𝓾𝓬𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷 𝓐𝓾𝓭𝓲𝓽𝓸𝓻 11:52, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Insistence on adding rankings of civil engineering in the lede[edit]

Summerdays1 has begun an edit war with multiple editors to add the following statement to the lede of this article:

The university is well known for its Engineering and Science programmes, with its Civil Engineering programme ranked 9th in the world (Academic Ranking of World Universities, 2021).[1]

First, the cited source doesn't support the claim - the ranking of a single program in a single year in one ranking system cannot support such a sweeping claim. Second, the lede of an article is supposed to summarize what's in the body of an article and this isn't even mentioned in the article much less discussed in the kind of detail that merits summarization in the lede. Third, the capitalization and linking used in the sentence is unnecessary.

Summerdays1, why are you insisting that this sentence be added to the lede over the objections of two editors? ElKevbo (talk) 12:27, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Summerdays1, please stop edit warring. If you don’t, this will result in your account getting blocked – and then it’s winter days. Schwede66 16:22, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
