User:Olegwiki just posted this very interesting link on the Russian America article; some of its history shoudl be integrated here, I'll suggest it to him..... "Air miles"

I believe this term was being used because it is substantially longer by road, maybe we should clarify that. "As the crow flies" it is only 100 miles, but according to The Milepost it is 188 miles via the highway. Between Cook Inlet and the mountains the options for road building in this area were rather limitedBeeblebrox (talk) 04:56, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
