Mother Brain connection with Space Pirates

[edit]

The Mother Brain is not part of the Space Pirates, this was shown in the manga which is considered official by Nintendo. And it is also stated here that Samus did not like the Pirates. The story of the raid is also in Metroid Prime and her dislike for Pirates is expressed in Zero Mission. So all of that is true, officially.

Disputed edits

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to the Wikipedia, 68.8.17.19! However, I have some issues with your edits to this article, so I'm going to put the disputed parts here and hope we can talk it over.

  • "...their base forms have hands featuring two thumbs and a single finger, but many are genetically engineered with lobsterlike claws with their gun barrels lodged within."

I would like to know where in the Metroid games it is confirmed that the three-fingered ones are definitely the originals and the clawed are definitely mutations.

I would really like to know where all that is confirmed. From what I've read, this seems to be fan speculation. I do know that according to Metroid Prime, there is some sort of higher command that even Ridley answers to – it was they who ordered his cybernetic enhancements.

  • "It is stated that Samus has a particular disliking for the Space Pirates after one of their raids orphaned her."

Where was this stated?

That's about all I really take issue with, but I reverted the whole article to save time. Hope for a response from you or anyone. ^_^ --Sparky the Seventh Chaos

Explanation on the changes:

The thing about the claws and gun barrels comes from Prime and Prime 2. You find the pirates have the ordinary hands, but there's some experimental claws in tanks in Prime--and by Prime 2, they have the actual claws attached.

As for the status about the leaders: No, that's NOT speculation. EXACT QUOTES FROM ZM: "Ridley is the leader of the space pirates." "...Mother Brain, the mechanical life form that controls Zebes' defenses." Prime's manual states the thing about Kraid being a general.

As for the orphaning thing? The e-manga, which IS canon, contrary to popular belief, shows the pirate raid that orphans Samus.

And for the comment about ZM and the claws? Well, that one IS speculation, but it's the only possible explanation that I can think of, as the claws are shown to be in development in Prime, yet they have them in ZM. Thus, they were probably prototypes.

Trust me on this, I have this weird OCD-type thing that gives me some odd obsessions, one of which is space pirates. I study them constantly, and know every nuance of how they work. Hell, I'm known as SPAP to my frineds--Space Pirate Addicted Person.

Thanks much, that's all I wanted. ^_^
I think all we need to hopefully be in agreement over this stuff is a little rewording. Give the sources - say "In the e-manga it is stated that Samus..." and that because the claws are in development in Prime, they're most likely the mutations/enhancements. By the way, where in Prime can they be found? I'd like to see for myself, sounds interesting. Can you post it to my talk page, please?
Kraid, Ridley and Mother Brain... well, maybe their jobs and so on should stay in their personal articles? If readers are interested, they can click for more info on them. Personally, I think ZM and Prime are contradicting each other a little bit... after all, there's apparently someone Ridley answers to in Prime, at least.
Speaking of ZM... I say it should be noted that it's a possible storyline glitch, with your speculation afterwards - makes sense to me. If anyone has any other ideas, they can add them.
Would that be satisfactory? --Sparky the Seventh Chaos 22:16, Sep 15, 2004 (UTC)

The claws can be found in a giant tank in Lab Hydra (or was it Aether?). There's a tank with parts from failed experiments, including a giant Ki Hunter abdomen, an Elite Pirate torso, and a claw-gun. They're barely visible once the lights go out, but quite prominent before this happens.

As for Ridley in Prime having a commander: My opinion is that High Command takes over whenever Ridley is incapacitated, and since Ridley was awakened prematurely, HC hadn't submitted to him yet.

Cool, will check that out at some point. ^_^ As for the Ridley theory, sounds good. I still think their jobs within the Space Pirate fleet should stay in their respective articles, though.

Anyhow, what d'you think of the rewordings?--Sparky the Seventh Chaos 23:27, Sep 16, 2004 (UTC)

Okay. I edited it a bit, containing ONLY canon information, so please don't undo those changes. ^_^ I'll leave the data about the leaders alone, you're right, they should go in their own sections, and I clarified the source on a few other things... any more qualms?

Nope, looks awesome! Glad we could come to an agreement! I just did a minor little thing fixing the link to Kraid's article. Thanks much and welcome to the Wikipedia. ^_^ --Sparky the Seventh Chaos 20:14, Sep 17, 2004 (UTC)

Is the the Weavel section needed?

[edit]

Should there really be two sections in the article on Weavel? He is already discussed in the MP:H section, so I don't really see a need for the section around the end dedicated entirely to him. I could be just entirely off my rocker, but I think that one or the other should go, preferably the latter one. --Gendreavus

Quantum assault cannons?

[edit]

Could someone specify when this name was mentioned? Is it in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes? If so, I apologise – I'm probably not getting that one until Christmas. Just curious. --Sparky the Seventh Chaos 21:53, Nov 15, 2004 (UTC)

Yeah, it's in Prime 2.
Thanks much. ^_^ --Sparky the Seventh Chaos 06:23, Nov 18, 2004 (UTC)

More questions from the Sparky.

[edit]

Sometimes it sucks being a Metroid fan who's never played Metroid II or Super Metroid, and who probably won't get Echoes until Christmas.

Anyhow, I have a few questions, again. One, I'm guessing Commando Pirates are in Echoes, right? And two, where do those Ninja Pirates appear (Super Metroid?) and what does QAC stand for when talking about them? Thanks to anyone who answers for helping with my knowledge gaps. ^^' --Sparky the Seventh Chaos 15:18, Nov 19, 2004 (UTC)

QAC=Quantum Assault Cannon. The ninja pirates are standing right in front of Ridley's door. And yes, Commandos are in Echoes.

http://www.conceptart.org/artist/andrew-jones/images/MP2_BONUS/comando_pirate_1.jpg Here's a picture of a commando. It's a bit sketchy, but gets the job done. :)

Ah, okay, and thanks for the pic. ^_^ Just one more thing - how does one throw a QAC? Did you perhaps mean 'wielding' or some such? Sorry, I'm guessing it's in Super Metroid, as I don't have any recollection whatsoever of them. ^^' (Note: you can indent your comments on the talk pages by putting a colon [:] in front of them. Helps make the threads easier to read. ^_^) --Sparky the Seventh Chaos 00:03, Nov 20, 2004 (UTC)
Sorry. I'm a bit new to this place. On that note, how do I register or whatever to get a name like that? >_>; But I digress. I do indeed mean THROW. They basically jump, spin, kick, land, spin, and throw a gun as though it were a shuriken. It spins and flies towards Samus. Sometimes they boomerang back, other times they just keep flying. They 'grow back' over time, somehow... and no, I don't have a clue why they THROW their guns. I guess they have no ammo. :D
Never mind. I figured it out. >_>; --Dazuro
Okay. Thanks much, and welcome to the Wikipedia! ^_^ --Sparky the Seventh Chaos 02:32, Nov 20, 2004 (UTC)

Uh, one more question. How do you add comments to your edits? Like what you did with "expanding quantum..." etc? I'm sure it's explained on the site somewhere, but it's not the most user-friendly thing to navigate... --Dazuro

See the thing that says "Edit summary" right below the main edit box? It's encouraged for people to put a quick summary of their edit in the box there. For instance, I just typed "Explaining the edit summary." in there, so now it'll appear in the history beside this edit. Please note that these things can never be changed once saved. ^^'
If you have any other questions about Wikipedia, you can go to the Village pump or come to my talk page. ^_^ --Sparky the Seventh Chaos 18:50, Nov 20, 2004 (UTC)
[edit]

How do you add a {{screenshot}} to the picture page??

Easy. Just go to the picture itself, which you can do by either clicking on the picture in the article or typing the filename into the searchbox and searching for it, and click the edit tab on the picture. ^_^ --Sparky the Seventh Chaos 05:52, Dec 2, 2004 (UTC)

Elite's picture.

[edit]

Having a copy of Metroid Prime, I can say that the picture of the Elite Pirate looks nothing like one. An Elite Pirate in Metroid Prime is of the three-fingered variety, and iis blue. The picture is also missing the shoulder-mounted missile launcher. I'll try to find a suitable replacement though. -Gamer01

You will not find a replacement. There ARE no accurate pictures of them. And by the way, they're black, not blue. See, originally they were designing them like in SM, hence the claws. But they changed to the new design, including the elites. That picture is from when they had claws and such. The most accurate picture of them is on nintendo.com, but it's HORRIBLY wrong. We need a pic from SM or something, there are absolutely no accurate pictures from the first prime game. Period. Unless you go for screenshots. Trust me, I've been looking ever since the game came out, you WILL NOT find an accurate official pic.
Well, while we have to put up with this one, why not just note it's a piece of concept art, and that the final design was different? I've changed the cpation to read something alogn these lines. --Sparky the Seventh Chaos 05:58, Feb 21, 2005 (UTC)

About the page move...

[edit]

Okay, yes the article is mainly about the Zebesian Space Pirates at this point, but space piracy is a concept in other sci-fi works. Metroid just seems to be the only one where all the pirates are ever called is... Space Pirates. So, I think there may be a compromise we can make here – move the article and its edit history back to Space Pirate, then manually move the Metroid stuff back to Zebesian Space Pirate, with a short blurb back at Space Pirate and a Main article: Zebesian Space Pirate note. Also, of course, noting that that's what whoever does the manual move is doing in the Edit Summary box. That way, we have an article on the stock sci-fi term and the Dr. Who space pirates, and the Metroid Pirates can be happy at their new Wikihome. How's that sound? --Sparky the Seventh Chaos 06:27, Feb 21, 2005 (UTC)

That sounds cool, but i think "Zebesian" is just taking up space cause not all Metroid space pirates are from Zebes. So just change it back to "Space Pirate."--Zxcvbnm 04:25, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Well, what about Space Pirate (Metroid) or Space Pirate (video game species) or something? I'm not too bothered either way, but perhaps the giant Metroid Space Pirate article needs to be siphoned off somewhere. At any rate, I do believe I'll move the page back to Space Pirate for the time being. --Sparky the Seventh Chaos 04:44, Feb 23, 2005 (UTC)

Not sure why my comments are missing (and it's annoying because it's now the third time I've tried to explain this, first was right as Wikipedia crashed, second was just a few minutes ago but didn;t get saved), but here we are again: A) The original article had next to no content on space pirates in general, and the lead sentence was atrociously bad. More than 99% of the article is specifically about some minor game I'd never even heard of and clearly didn't belong there. B) Apparently we agree that there should be a page devoted to space priates in general and not just this game, and that should carry the generic descriptive title. This is good. I started work on that. C) Reverting and moving back was a bad call. The history and comments of the old page are solely about the Metroid game, so need to be attached to this article. Moving the page back and then cutting and pasting most of the text serves no useful purpose other than to screw up the history and comments. D) Sparky went ahead and made these changes without waiting for me to answer the "How's that sound?" question. Nothing is more rude than asking a question when it's obvious you have no intention to actually listen to what the person you are asking says. Either do it and don't ask, or ask and wait. E) When the page was reverted you also re-added several grammar errors and so forth I had fixed. You should be more careful. Blind reverts are bad in general because of just that reason... Not to mention the revert was pointless in the first place. DreamGuy 06:50, Feb 23, 2005 (UTC)

Sorry. You're right, it was too hasty of me to move the page back after only a couple of days. As for the revert, it was a rather drastic way of calling attention to the matter. Again, probably a bad call. I apologise for my hastiness. Perhaps I shouldn't be making big edits when I really should be in bed. ^^'
Good work on the disambig, anyhow. --Sparky the Seventh Chaos 01:24, Feb 24, 2005 (UTC)
Well, it wasn't so much the "only after a couple of days" as the fact that those couple of days included a day when the entire site was down and one where Watchlists weren't working, so the only way I could have seen the comment is if I'd individually checked all of the pages I'd ever added anything to manually to see if changes were made. But anyway, no biggee. I think we had the same basic idea even if the way we wanted to go about doing it was different. DreamGuy 20:57, Feb 25, 2005 (UTC)

Guns or claws?

[edit]

Where is it stated that Space Pirate guns are genetically engineered deals and not just interestingly designed handheld weapons?

>> It was never stated, but they seem to have replaced their hands by them--as there is no room for the hand to fit inside the claw, and you can see no hand inside when the claws are open. Plus we know they love genetic engineering.

The chances are that yes, they're doing genetic engineering. And to answer your question, they're both guns AND claws! They're seen in most recent 2D games gripping to the walls and whatnot, and similarly shooting from those claws. Or something like that.  :) MasterXiam 04:41, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry to do this, but I talked to the owner of the website that the translated e-manga is on-- She's receiving too much traffic. Can someone please mirror the website in which the manga is hosted? She'd be so much better off that way.

Space Pirate Logs to add?

[edit]

For external links, (or to add an internal link to a new artical) would anyone agree to have a link to Space Pirate Logs from the Metroid Prime series? In order of scan or order of the date of log?

I think the external link would be best. The article would probably violate a copyright or something. --DcPimp 14:11, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

About Weavel

[edit]

In the article it says "Weavel is a former Space Pirate". How exactly does that work, 'Space Pirate' is a race or specie so how can Weavel be a former member of a race or specie. Just a little discrepancy, shoud it be change or is it fine as it is.

It means Weavel is a former Space Pirate soldier. If you've read enough about Weavel, you'll know he's no longer a common fighter, but an assassin/commando. But, as long as I'm here, shouldn't the Battlehammer's main information be here, since it is originally Pirate technology? --DcPimp 23:55, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First Appearance

[edit]

Maybe someone should include the fact that we never actually SEE the Space Pirates appear in a game until Super Metroid, and only near the end of that game. That was always kind of a mystery during the first two games: were all the miscellaneous creatures on Zebes supposed to be the Pirates, or were they just hiding somewhere behind the scenes? 68.79.206.101 06:24, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

They didn't make an appearence in metroid and metroid 2, your right. The other creatures are not Space Pirates. (11987 06:31, 5 July 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Acutally, Space pirates are through the entire Super Metroid game, but they are quite absent in Metroid and Metroid II. Spoobork 04:05, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Scans to add?

[edit]

Should we add in game scans for the pirates in the Prime series? (11987 22:47, 8 July 2006 (UTC)}[reply]

Copyright violation, so no, not unless it's small snippets. --Sparky Lurkdragon 22:50, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

But other sites have these scans. We should be allowed. (11987 23:00, 8 July 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Which other sites? Whichever they are, I'd suspect the difference is that they're not as nervy about getting sued over copyright violation as Wikipedia is. For example, verbatim excerpts from the Pokédex are not allowed on Pokémon articles, and Chozo Lore entries from Prime were removed from the Chozo entry as copyright violations.
Besides, even if it wasn't a copyright violation, adding all the Pirate scans would be straying too much into the article acting like a game guide, another thing Wikipedia is supposed to avoid. Were you thinking of adding any specific scans that add a lot to the understanding of Pirate mentality? --Sparky Lurkdragon 01:58, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not really, nevermind. (11987 02:51, 9 July 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Ridley's Personal Bodygaurds?

[edit]

I know that fans have dubbed the "ninja pirates" so, but have they ever been officially called his personal body guards? Or even officially called Ninja pirates? Xubelox 00:52, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Weavel

[edit]

I believe Weavel should get his own page.

He's not that important. He showed up for one game as a secondary character, we know very little about him, and he's just not very important. He's not important enough to get his own page. --DcPimp 23:05, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Please sign your posts. I second DcPimp. Weavel simply isn't important enough to warrant his own page, and there isn't enough information on him besides. - Kalarchis 05:06, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I hav to agree with DcPimp and Kalarchis; he douesnt have enough info and story on him. He doesnt deserve his own page. (11987 05:13, 16 July 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Question about Space Pirate Anatomy

[edit]

I know the article says that the pirate's basic form has two thumbs and a single finger, but I honestly think it looks more like two fingers and a thumb... Where did you get the "two thumbs and a finger" bit from? DocDragon 08:25, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Look at the handprints in MP2: E. They've got a middle finger, and two short, thumblength growths on the side. --DcPimp 12:32, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It varies from game to game. In Prime they have a middle finger and two thumbs, in Echoes they have two fingers and a thumb. Above comment is completely backwards. <_< Dazuro

History section

[edit]

Well, I made a History section for the Pirates (though for some parts of it i forgot to to log in), better explaing their roles in the games. I also did alot of editing to my own work, and moved things around, and deletd the opening statement; far too long and no longer neccesarry. Anyways, just edit any mistakes i may have made (i tried hard to make sure spelling was okay and stuff) and if yuo decide to rvert back to the old form, please explain why; this took me a while. (11987 17:17, 6 August 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Looks good to me. Just needs a little work on punctuation and stuff, maybe some rewording here and there, but otherwise fine. Oh, and hi, I'm the Pants of Destiny 18:03, 6 August 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Rewrite

[edit]

I know this article is actually rather poor, but why does it need a complete rewrite? I think just a general cleanup would be better, but who's idea was this rewrite and why? 199.126.137.209 15:28, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User:Vulian put a cleanup tag there on December 20th, then changed it to the rewrite tag. I don't know why, and you're right, it's overkill and cleanup would be more appropriate. Vulian has only two edits since that day, and his Wikistess level is set at "I quit," so I doubt asking him about it would do any good. I'm going to change the tag back to cleanup. --Herald Alberich 22:09, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article cleanup

[edit]

All right, it's clear that this article needs cleanup. First of all, the huge "description" paragraphs have to be deleted - all information must be referenced from either the games, comics, manuals, or something else. Also, such a detailed Weavel description isn't needed either, since it's riddled with game hints. The entire "pirate society" and "other types of pirates" sections need to be cut down to size.--ZXCVBNM 22:52, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Considering the Covenant are in two games and already have such a detailed article, I'm surprised we don't have an amazing one... -Chao9999 11:47, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think the first thing that needs to be done is severely condensing the synopsis of the in-game plots for each section. A simple paragraph (maybe two) would work just fine for explaining the Space Pirates' role in the games. The descriptions as they currently stand are IMO overly long for an encyclopedia. If a person wants to know in depth about every little thing that goes on in the game, they'd just as soon play it. Spoobork 04:10, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay--I just deleted the paragraphs for the Space Pirates on the Metroid/Zero Mission section and replaced it with a couple of sentences. As it is, it still needs work and could use a LITTLE filling out, but I certainly would not like a revert, nor would it be appropriate to add to what I've put down until it becomes a bloated hunk of mini-fanfic.
