Orphaned non-free media (File:Channel 6 (Ireland).png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Channel 6 (Ireland).png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:10, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Poll on Ireland (xxx)

[edit]

A poll is up at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Ireland_Collaboration/Poll on Ireland (xxx). This is a vote on what option or options could be added in the poll regarding the naming of the Ireland and Republic of Ireland and possibly the Ireland (disambiguation) pages. The order that the choices appear in the list has been generated randomly. Sanctions for canvassing, forum shopping, ballot stuffing, sock puppetry, meat puppetry will consist of a one-month ban, which will preclude the sanctioned from participating in the main poll which will take place after this one. Voting will end at 21:00 (UTC) of the evening of 1 July 2009 (that is 22:00 IST and BST). -- Evertype· 18:15, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Personal attacks

[edit]

Now that there appears to be some new rules about the place I'd strongly advise you to withdraw your personal attack on me. Thanks in advance. Sarah777 (talk) 21:35, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Personal attack - stop been daft. Get an admin if you want - if anyone is withdrawing its you. Djegan (talk) 21:41, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm following up on your suggestion. I'll not be withdrawing anything but I think you will. Sarah777 (talk) 21:50, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Go on, keep digging yourself in deeper. Djegan (talk) 21:51, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Smug, aren't we? Sarah777 (talk) 21:52, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not smug - but a realist. Djegan (talk) 21:53, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That sure don't sound like a withdrawal to me. Sarah777 (talk) 00:10, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What part of "no" don't you understand? You are obviously still very "sore" after your recent banning, but you will get neither an apology nor withdrawal from me. So move on. Djegan (talk) 04:20, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just noticed your recently uploaded image. What is its provenance? Is it the PMG's seal? The harp looks quite different from the IFS seal, so wondering if it was a design by JJ Walsh. Any info. greatly appreciated. RashersTierney (talk) 00:14, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I know this logo did not relate to a specific official.
Rather it was a logo that appeared on public postboxes between 1928 and 1939 - those on posts and walls - but did not appear on pillar boxes.
Some examples include [1] and [2]. As you can see it looks like a case of new doors on old boxes.
I came across the logo in "The Irish Post Box - Silent servant and symbol of the State" by Stephen Ferguson which is published by An Post. There isn't a lot of specific information, however it appears the Office of Public Works was responsible for the initial cast and refinement of the design.
I hope this helps. Djegan (talk) 13:12, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I have a copy of it around here somewhere. The design of the new state's symbols were given to (or assumed by) individuals - thus the AG Hugh Kennedy was given responsibility for the design of the Seal and Desmond Fitzgerald for the design of the FS passport. It would be surprising to me if design was given to the OPW, which is why I wondered about Walsh, but I'll try to follow it up. RashersTierney (talk) 19:15, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Irish ten shilling coin (obverse).png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Irish ten shilling coin (obverse).png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.  fetchcomms 22:17, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is my coin, and I scanned it - why do you want to delete it? Djegan (talk) 22:36, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually while you may own the coin, as I once did, but the copyright lies with the Irish government or is it the Irish Central Bank, however, I think you should justify the fair-use claim as identifying of the currency per WP:NFCI #3. Ww2censor
I do undertstand your point about copyright. However the problem is with wikipedia; when the images were originally uploaded the images were correctly identified as the rules then were. Since that the rules changed. I feel it is somewhat lazy to tag a reasonable file (its not high resolution, or stolen high art, or a gallery of irrelevant images) without attempting to rationalise why it should (or indeed should not) stay. A tag has been placed on File:Irishwiki 2.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The article Métamorphose (song) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No references, no claim of notability, fails WP:GNG and WP:NSONGS

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. A tag has been placed on File:NUI, Maynooth.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ww2censor (talk) 12:47, 2 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Global account

[edit]

Hi Djegan! As a Steward I'm involved in the upcoming unification of all accounts organized by the Wikimedia Foundation (see m:Single User Login finalisation announcement). By looking at your account, I realized that you don't have a global account yet. In order to secure your name, I recommend you to create such account on your own by submitting your password on Special:MergeAccount and unifying your local accounts. If you have any problems with doing that or further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 12:30, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. The file File:Map of the Dublin Region.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Orphaned map.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ~ Rob13Talk 03:25, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:15, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Turning Point (institute) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No doubt a worthy charity and supplier of courses but a weak article, wholly lacking sources, and never having had proper independent references; can't see evidence of WP:Notability (GNG or NSCH). The article was created in a different time, and now a presence on 1-2 lists may be sufficient.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
