Wikipedia:Meetup/Seattle is a meeting in Seattle which often, but not always, takes place on or around the third Tuesday evening of every month. The purpose of the meeting is to socialize, collaborate Wikipedia projects among Seattle-area Wikipedia users, and to share in-person Wikipedia knowledge. The meetup is entirely volunteer run. Meetings are free to attend but you will need to buy your own food and beverages. If you plan to come, please consider putting your name on the list! Drop-ins are also welcome.

Frisbees and soccer balls also welcome. Sign up here!

Directions

[edit]

Note that State Route 520 and the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge will be closed all weekend. There is limited parking at the north parking lots near the Arboretum Foundation Building, so taking public transit is strongly recommended.

The nearest bus stops on 24th Avenue East at McGraw Street are a 15-minute walk (0.6 miles) away; a portion of the walking route is unpaved, but there are paved alternatives that take longer. These bus stops are served by King County Metro route 48, which runs every 15 minutes from two light rail stations on the 1 Line: University of Washington and Mount Baker.

  • --Guylaen (talk) 01:54, 8 August 2024 (UTC) To amend my above - looks like I'll be in Portland for the launch of my friend's city council campaign on the 10th, and if I can find a place in Portland to crash, I can swing by Seattle on my way back to Ellensburg on the 11th. But I had to borrow money for gas, so I won't be bringing any food if I do come.[reply]
  • Rich1vanwinkle (talk) 22:51, 8 August 2024 (UTC) Would love to come. I am scheduled in Arlington for a basketball tournament and won't know how that progresses until Sunday morning. If the event lasts until 3pm, I may catch it after the "pot luck". Rich[reply]

Hello! We recently came across your event listing for a summer picnic at the WA Park Arboretum this Sunday. We appreciate your interest in our beautiful Arboretum and your efforts to bring the community together. However, I'm sure you are unaware, but there are specific regulations in place to protect our environment and ensure the enjoyment of all visitors. Unfortunately, there are issues with your event. Specifically: Drones: While amazing and very popular, Drones are strictly prohibited in the Washington Park Arboretum

Permits: Any organized events must be permitted through Seattle Parks and Recreation. (We have no record of a permit for your event in the current calendar.) A permit is required to reserve any area used for a gathering. Events with short turn around may have challenges getting permitted. Here is parks Permit Process document https://www.seattle.gov/parks/rentals-and-permits/outdoor-event-permits Please know, If you proceed with the event without obtaining the necessary permits, you will be asked to leave the premises on Sunday. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us preserve the beauty and tranquility of the WA Park Arboretum.

@Uwbgfac: I have sent an application in & adjusted the language advising that drones are are prohibited under Seattle Parks rules and regulations. Peaceray (talk) 22:51, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
