[edit]Well, I think this entry is more like a dictionary entry than it should be. Perhaps we should have a redirect to an Indic languages article. This would encourage a correct academic discussion of the language family and its development.
Right now I have no resources to do this myself, but I'll leave the note as a suggestion. I believe my last edit is an ugly but necessary improvement over the previous "Indic means languages of India - Sanskrit, Hindi, Prakrits and Vedic" oversimplification, as it is clear that Indic is often used, perhaps academically (definitely in the case of Mitanni, in wider context. :--prat
Indic is an appellation that describes the entire East Indies and not merely South Asia; it is bad science and extremely foolish to confuse Indic with Indo-European languages! They are not synonymous! "Indic" descibes the composite cultural systems of the East Indies that arose as a result of the interactions of peoples of various races and ethnic stocks and with the Indo-European, and more specifically Hindu and Sanskritic, cultural influences predominanting, more in South Asia, and less, but still distinctive enough to be recognized and admitted, in South-East Asia.
