Possible colloquial usage of term?

[edit]

I give up; what is the etymology of switch in this context? I've never heard the term used in English to refer to a preference (or rather, a seeming lack thereof) of sexual position amongst gay men, only versatile. Nulbyte 08:05, 2004 Sep 5 (UTC)

Nulbyte is correct, this page is entirely inaccurate, no one in the gay community uses the term "switch" comes from "switch-hitter", which is a sports reference, along with the terms "pitcher" and "catcher" to refer to gay men's preferences. I have corrected the pages for top and bottom, but will leave it to someone more familiar with Wikipedia to make the necessary correction to remove the "switch" page and replace it with one for "versatile", and then fix the links from "top" and "bottom". 22:37, 2005 Nov 17 (EST)

top, bottom, seme, etcetera

[edit]

There isn't a ton of information on any of these pages, so for the time being a merge might be wise? There oughta be a source of info better than this on these topics on wikipedia. ALSO: I think there must be published articles etcetera of the viewpoint that tops, bottoms, butches and bitches are terms that don't apply so easily to everyone as is represented on televison and popular culture. That viewpoint should be referenced somewhere? 66.41.66.213 22:31, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
